My head fits more into the helmet than the Giro Synthe I've used for the past 5 years. She loves the matte blue color and it is pretty rad! It's likely my head as the helmet looks different in pictures. – Giro Aether & Synthe – POC Octal MIPS ... but no brands publish the actual test numbers. So the Aether is obviously spendy.
I previously have really hated MIPS, it's hot, hair pulling, and makes your helmet look like it's a size too large for your head (which it sort of is to make room for the soda bottle thing). Enter Giro, which is looking to combat the garage of rotating helmets with its new Aether MIPS that attempts to bridge the gap between airflow, aerodynamics, and protection. It took lots of iterations to come to the final design of the new Aether MIPS helmet.Previously, the MIPS Spherical design was only available in Giro’s high-end snow sport helmets. I had to return a couple POC helmets, because they have a more oval shape and the side to side size is too narrow, and the front to back size is too large. More aero equals less air flow; Lightweight could mean less protection, and so on. But after seeing the potential, design engineers sought ways to incorporate the protection technology into a maximum airflow cycling helmet design. Love them all. Very annoying and I struggle to understand why Giro doesn’t use a more robust system - BOA maybe?I ordered a medium and have always fit medium helmets. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars are a couple of nitpicks.
Also the eyewear holder is a genius touch.
I have tried adjusting and wearing different weight sweat bands and ear warmers and hats and the situation is the same across all. Riding some of the climbs featured in the Tour of California was a great way to show the cooling effects of the new Aether MIPS helmet.Giro recently launched its Aether MIPS cycling helmet. Been riding with Giro helmets for years and always happy. Great, comfortable fit and ventilation. The Synthe saved my brain in a crash in Lamb's Canyon on my road bike which made me a loyal Giro fan. In my case...Absolutely (although I wish I had been left to wonder). It is my #1 helmet of choice each morning when I ride because of the fit and aero design.
There are many more options for mountain biking. No complaints, fits, breathes and even manages to be more comfortable with my head up vs. lowered, which is a bonus. I ponied up and exchanged for the Aether in matte black/ flash (reflective).
Love the idea of this MIPS.
Fit system is a goner. We ride around 50-60 miles a week and she hadn't updated her helmet in years so we felt like we could splurge on a new one. He has been involved in nearly every aspect of the cycling industry: from turning wrenches, store design, clothing production and bike park creation. I've used the helmet more that 10 times, and am very pleased with it.I had a couple of the Giro Synthe MIPS. The Aether is up to 2.5% cooler than Synthe MIPS, as demonstrated by the Giro “Dome” with Therminator heat-sensing head unit.Personally, I’m a big fan of one helmet that does most things well.
Weight is also impressively low (250g size medium). I ride about 500 miles per month, mostly road in very hilly area.
I guess I have a weird shaped head and I know it's right between M and L in most helmets. Bueno, para ser más exactos, el Giro Aether que os presentamos hoy, tiene un PVP recomendado de 299 €.
Giro has developed a better MIPS system, in my opinion, based on their experience with ski helmets. Turning my head to check position on downhills, the Aether remained silent, no odd noises or head tugs that accompany many of today’s aero style helmets. Have you noticed what the guys on GCN are wearing?? The Synthe MIPS is slightly more comfortable but this one is still great. 2) For a helmet this expensive, I wish Giro would include a second pair of helmet pads in the box.
